GEO: being findable when the answer arrives without a click.
Generative Engine Optimisation is the work of structuring your content and business information so AI assistants and AI-generated answers can find, quote and attribute you correctly. It is a young discipline, and everything below reflects that: a recorded baseline, work on the parts genuinely within your control, and re-measurement — never a promised position.
- Capability group
- Grow
- What that group is for
- Get found and win more customers
- Who it is for
- Businesses whose buyers have started asking an AI assistant before they search, and who currently have no idea what those answers say about them.
- Where it stops
- Representation inside AI-generated answers and assistants: entity clarity, structured facts, source quality and monitoring. Ranking a page in a conventional results list is SEO. The two share technical foundations and are deliberately not sold as the same thing.
What actually changed
A growing share of buyers now ask an assistant before they open a search results page, and often act on the answer without visiting a site at all. That answer is assembled from sources the model can find, parse and trust. If your business is hard to parse, inconsistently described, or simply absent from the places these systems draw on, you are missing from the answer — and unlike a low ranking, nothing in your analytics tells you.
It is worth being precise about what is knowable here. These systems are opaque, they change without notice, and no one can guarantee that a given assistant will cite a given business. What can be done is concrete: make the facts about your business consistent and machine-readable, publish content that genuinely answers questions rather than gesturing at them, and monitor what the major assistants currently say about you so change is observable rather than assumed.
Anyone promising a guaranteed position in ChatGPT or any other assistant is selling something that does not exist. We will not, and that constraint is part of the service rather than a caveat attached to it.
Common signals
- You have never checked what an AI assistant says when asked about your category.
- Your business information differs across your site, directories and profiles.
- Your best expertise lives in PDFs, images or a sales deck rather than readable pages.
- Competitors get named in AI answers about your market and you do not.
- Direct traffic and branded search are moving in ways nobody can explain.
What we can help with
Much of this overlaps with doing SEO and content properly. That overlap is real, and we would rather say so than invent a separate methodology.
- Baseline visibility check
- What the major assistants currently say when asked about your category, your business and your competitors — recorded so later change can be compared against something rather than remembered.
- Entity and business-information consistency
- One consistent description of what the business is, does and serves, aligned across the site, structured data and the external profiles these systems draw on.
- Structured data and machine-readable facts
- Schema markup and structured content so specifics — services, locations, coverage, contact routes — can be read as facts rather than inferred from prose.
- Content built to be quoted
- Pages that answer a real question directly and completely, with clear headings and self-contained explanations. Content that needs the surrounding page to make sense is hard to quote correctly.
- Technical accessibility to crawlers
- Server-rendered content, clean markup and crawl access, so an assistant is not reliant on running your JavaScript to discover what you do.
- Authority and source quality
- Being represented accurately in the places these systems already trust, rather than attempting to manufacture citations.
- Monitoring
- Periodic re-checks of the same prompts, reported plainly, including when nothing has changed. This is a young discipline and the honest report often says so.
How a GEO engagement usually runs
It starts with observation, because acting on an unmeasured baseline makes the result unfalsifiable.
Baseline
A fixed set of prompts run across the major assistants, and what they currently say about your category and your business, recorded.
Gap analysis
Where you are absent, thin or misdescribed, and whether the cause is missing content, inconsistent facts, or a technical barrier.
Foundations
Entity consistency, structured data and crawl accessibility — the parts that are within your control and stay useful regardless of how the models change.
Content work
Pages built to answer the questions your buyers actually ask, in a form that can be quoted without distortion.
Re-measure
The same prompts, re-run on a schedule, compared with the baseline and reported — including when the honest answer is that little has moved.
Where it connects
GEO and SEO share their foundations: crawlable pages, consistent facts, real answers. They are separate pages here because the mechanics and the measurement differ, and because bundling them would let a young discipline hide inside a mature one.
It also connects to the site itself. Server-rendered pages, structured content and honest metadata are build decisions, and retrofitting them to a site that renders its content in the browser is considerably more expensive than building it that way.
What to expect from us
- No guaranteed placement, citation or ranking in any AI assistant — the mechanism for such a promise does not exist.
- A recorded baseline before any work, so change is observable rather than asserted.
- Plain reporting, including periods where nothing measurable changed.
- Honesty about which parts of this are established practice and which are still emerging.
